I'm surprised all these other reviews are so nice. Maybe I just haven't been there on a good day. But, I remember when this place opened, and I was so excited that we finally had a starbucks in Des Plaines, no more having to go down my Target to get a coffee. Yet, now I drive there anyways. Here's a few main problems and experiences in the collection of maybe 10 times I've been. -The service is ALWAYS slow. I've had times where I'll sit in the drive thru for 20 minutes waiting for my coffee, and it's not even busy. I spend almost all of my time downtown for school. And the starbucks there has less people on the bar, and at least 5 times the amount of customers and I still get my coffee faster, anyone see something wrong with that? -More often than not my drinks were either too watery or, if they were made with a type of powder, they had too much of a grainy texture. I have no clue how that works, but it happened. On more than one occasion I've watched the workers joking around while they had a line of customer's and the bar was backed up, or the few times I mentioned something they personally mouthed off to ME. I'm a full time student, and I work full time as well, and when I commented on my wait of 15 minutes in the drive thru, a girl actually had the nerv to say, "Do you even have a job? Cause if you did. I think you'd understand that sometimes things just get backed up" And this was when I was the only one there. - There is one guy there however that I do enjoy, and he does do well on the coffee, he's older and very funny. Maybe the manger, but I'm not sure. Either way, he's the only reason I even gave this 2 stars. Basically, my drinks have never been up to par, you'll be waiting forever for your drink, and you may get bad service on top of that. Glad starbucks came to Des Plaines, but I still would rather go to Rosemont.

Almost all of the baristas here are consistent both with tasty drinks and good attitude. Best Starbucks I've been to.

This is my usually "at home" Starbucks - I go to the ones by school and work more often, but I come here a few times a month at least - both in store and drive thru. Always a great experience - the staff are always wonderful and accommodating, especially the usual baristas I always see there, Mary and Jean. There can sometimes be a wait, but that is to be expected at any Starbucks. For fellow students, It's an alright place to study, can get a little noisy sometimes. Love this SB location - mainly because the staff just rock.

I usually come here to kill time since I work nearby. I came through the drive through yesterday and ordered a grande very very hibiscus. I waited literally 10 min, with a 2 car wait in front of me. I was never greeted with "thank you for your patience. Sorry for the delay". At least some acknowledgment of the long wait would have been nice. The tables are seen as dirty. Maybe the employees get so caught up as a barista that they forget to wipe down tables or even restock napkins. It's a pretty tight fit inside so don't plan on bringing a huge group. There's one big table that could fit about 8 people and 5 small tables. There's 4 cushioned chairs but they are all facing each other. So if you want to stare at a total stranger or possibly be seen as creepy than that's the place to sit. The coffee is gonna sell itself and people are always going to come in. But time management and efficiency lack at this Starbucks. Hopefully they will step up their game.

Great drive through option. Seating inside and washroom was clean. Service was friendly and order came quickly. The music was a tad loud. I was trying to have conversation with a friend and I felt like we were yelling over each other to converse. Most of the patrons had laptops and were sitting solo.

This is fairly small Starbucks, busy drive thru and store too. Baristas are pretty good here, know how to make drinks, friendly too. I have to knock off one star for overall appearance and lack of cleanliness. They need to improve on that to get 5 star.

Waited 15 min. in the drive thru. Mentioned my concern for drive thru service since this was my 3rd time experiencing long wait times. The employee said "yeah, sorry, management is working on it." Then, the black iced coffee I ordered was sweetened, which I realized as I was already blocks away, already running late to an appointment (not to mention I had no choice to leave the drive thru). Very disappointing.

This place is awesome! They have the friendliest staff I've ever dealt with! Never had an issue with my beverage or service! Mary and Coco are always a pleasure to deal with. Nick and Jose make amazing drinks. This is what a Starbucks is suppose to look like. Friendly staff, great product and comfortable atmosphere.

I go to this Starbucks all the time to work and sip some tea or coffee. The staff is very nice and the drinks are well-made. Everyone is always busy cleaning, stocking, etc. if it's slow; and on the ball if it's busy. I've been impressed by the overall work ethic here. I've asked for suggestions and have never been steered wrong. There's a man that works at this store who I would hire in a heartbeat if I ever needed a reliable, conscientious worker - he's a bit older than the other staff (Scott, maybe?) and he's extremely pleasant. If he isn't the manager, he should be. Very professional--and friendly. It can get crowded in there, but the staff keeps it stocked up and quite clean. The outdoor seating area is nice (I don't use it myself, but it's well done) and the overall atmosphere is comfortable--in my opinion it has a warmer feel than many other Starbucks locations. Great spot.

Went into the store, didn't use the drive-in. Wonderful service! Prompt, friendly, efficient. A badly needed addition to Lee St in Des Plaines and I'm sure the neighborhood is appreciative, as well as anyone who makes this their stop before work.

This location was a disappointment. Lady at drive though was very awkward taking our orders. Cinnamon dolce lattes were not good. We get these at other Starbucks frequently and it's our favorite drink. This location must have skipped one or more ingredients because they tasted like hot nasty milk.

I got a iced caramel macchiato and asked for extra caramel. But there was just too much caramel and i didn't enjoy my drink. Gave them a call and told them the next day I went back and they gave me a free coffee. Awesome service! This place has a drive through! clutch!!!

Usual starbucks, but this seems really busy since it is pretty close to the airport. Got myself a caramel ribbon frappachuino. That was good.

Been here 2 consectutive days and noticed the staff wasn't paying attention to drinks that were already made. One time I went thru the drive through and after paying, was asked to wait a moment. It's freezing here in IL but I kept my window open thinking it would be quick. I noticed a drink on the counter close to the drive thru window but no one there to pass it to me. A couple mins later someone finally came over to bring it to the window brrr. The next day I went inside to order. Tried to find a seat first so didn't get to the counter until a min later. Noticed a drink sized like mine sitting by the drive thru counter...waited for the barista to make 2 more drinks before she brought that one over to the hand off counter. They didn't take name or call out drink this time.

Haven't had any problems here- standard sbux. The drive thru crew is always super friendly and quick with taking and making orders. It's never too crowded, and I'm always happy with how they make my drinks. One time while inside, one of the guys spilled a little of my drink before handing it to me, and he started making me an entire new one before even asking--wasn't necessary, but I really appreciate how courteous they are!

I go here everyday and get the same drink. They have had a huge turnover of employees and managers and I like the people that are there now. A couple of years ago, YIKES! The store is always clean and I rarely have a long wait.

I enjoyed the atmosphere of this Starbucks, although it was a bit crowded.

This seemed to be a very busy location. Long wait in line while a family with kids in front of me couldn't make up their mind what they wanted...shouldn't they be at McDonald's? The young lady who took my order could not have been more aloof. She told me the cost of my order, I paid and she just stared at me. Maybe her head would have exploded if she would have said, "Thank you," or "Your coffee will be ready for you in just a moment over there." It's not the Starbucks brand that used to be hip, trendy, friendly and cool. Oh well.

love the staff at this Starbucks, always friendly and they all speak fluent and proper English. Try getting that at a dunkin donuts or Mcdonalds. Although Starbucks is a bit pricey, its well worth the few extra bucks to receive the good service. Special kudos to Liz and Neil for always remembering my drink. Nice layout but its a bit crowded now with all the holiday sales displays. I do gotta say though the turn around there kinda stinks, cause alot of people have come and gone. Partly due to the rotten manager they have there currently. This is one person i dont like and wish would transfer, the old manager was friendly, enthusiastic and outgoing. They shoulda kept her. Oh well that's business for you, all around this is one of the best Starbucks around. Check it out.

The place is clean and spacious with several empty tables inside and outside for people to chill with their coffee or work using the free WiFi. Service is good and fast.

I've been to this Starbucks before and I must say today's visit did not go well at all. 1st- I waited for about 15 minutes in the drive-thru, 2nd- I placed my order and I guess the guy forgot to turn off his microphone & I heard him say some disrespectful things over the speaker about someone inside the store. Then I finally get to the window and they had my order wrong. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS STORE TO ANYONE..

  • Joey G.

They are WAY TOO OVERPRICED!! It costs them like $0.50 to just make a coffee and they're charging their customers like 4-5 dollars per coffee. They make a couple of million dollars at least off of their customers. You go to all of these places that either give coffee for free or they charge you very minimum. Maybe $0.75 to make coffee. Way better than 4-5 dollars!!

This teenage staff needs a serious attitude adjustment. No customer service at all! You will not receive "service with a smile" here. Make the drive to the one in Rosemont! I have given this Starbucks so many chances to redeem themselves, but every time I go they mess up my order, or make me wait because they forgot about me, or make the drink wrong, or are too busy gossiping. UH!

As a former barista at a coffee shop, I would say that this is one of the worst Starbucks stores I have ever had the misfortune to visit. After they completely messed up my order last time, they gave me a gift card. When I attempted to use said gift card, the rather incompetent cashier said that it was "inactive". At this point, my baby was crying in the back seat, so I just handed back the drink, she kept the card, and I had to pull over and comfort the baby. Another visit, my latte looked like drip coffee stirred with milk. No froth on top at all. When I called to voice my concerns, they left me a "free drink" card. When I used this "free drink" card, I requested a decaf latte (because I was breastfeeding)...they apparently ignored that request and gave me a full-caf coffee....my baby did not sleep for 6 HOURS! Giving caffeinated beverages to those who shouldn't be drinking them, and did not ask for them, is not only a heinous mistake, but extremely dangerous for pregnant and breastfeeding women. I don't know what this store needs to start addressing first - the incompetence of the baristas or that of the cashiers when it comes to customer service. I feel that despite their many mistakes, I have given them several chances. However, after they seriously screwed up my order (and hurt my baby!) and treated me in an amateur fashion. I will no longer be frequenting this sub-par establishment and I will certainly advise my mommy friends to do the same.

Great Starbucks location. Popped in to try the new vanilla macchiato and use their restroom. Store was super clean; staff was friendly and helpful.

Very nice place and the drive thru is nice and easy. It can take a bit longer than I'd like but like this location. It's very convenient and easy to get in and out of. The inside is on the small side but love the staff here, always so friendly.

This place has employees that can totally be rude. I came here with a few coworkers and we placed our orders at once, but after placing it, we decided to split the orders. The employee at the window rudely said, "You know, if you're going to place separate orders you should have told me so it's easier for us." Yeah, I know - that's obviously common sense and if we'd known to start we were going to do that, we'd have let you know. But thanks for being an antagonizing old maid so that you can have an 'easier' day. I only continue to frequent this location because it's the closest to my work, but I am sincerely hoping they open a new one or if the other location off Busse Rd gets a drive-thru soon, that'd also be great. Today, I just ordered my usual - grande hazelnut macchiato w/ soy. I have to rehearse that line because if I don't, I forget when I start to order. So I said my line and added 'to 140 degrees pls" - they gave me caramel, which I hate. But since I have a job that requires me to pay attention and be timely, I went to work with my wrong order. Seriously, I hate this location. You get better service at the Little Caesar's behind it. And before anyone claims I don't understand food service, I call false because I was a cafe barista myself for a few years in college. I know it's a shite job, but it's a job that requires customer interaction - if you don't like it, get another job.

I live less than 3 blocks from this Starbucks and I find that I avoid it and wait until I get to Rolling Meadows. Maybe I dont go often enough to get the warm and fuzzies from this staff, but I dont get the warm and fuzzies from this staff. example: I have the Starbucks App on my phone and I LOVE it and when I go to my regualr Starbucks in Rolling Meadows I hold my phone out my window and they hold their machine out their window and I am paid for! When I came here my first time and I started to stick my phone out my window I got the whole schpeel about how they cant do that because if I drop my phone they dont want to be liable blah blah blah...they are the ONLY starbucks of the 4 different ones I have been to in the past 5 months. So NOW when I go I KNOW i have to read them my numbers but the moment they see my phone they get defensive and start to give me the schpeel again and I have to say I KNOW! Eh. Ive been to better. Too bad though.

The people are always friendly but when you go through the drive-thru the window is waayyy far away from your car so no matter how close up to the curb you get, you'll still need to reach to grab your drink. Just a heads up. Otherwise overall it's a great location.

This is hands down the best Starbucks around! Since it seems the drinks are pretty universally good, I'm really rating them on the store itself, i.e. the layout and the staff. First of all, I LOVE this staff here! They are so friendly and helpful and they make me feel like I'm at my home away from home! They are pretty much what makes this place so great! I have passed by other Starbucks, even gone out of my way at times, to go to this location rather than another one just out of loyalty to them! Another thing I really love about this Starbucks is the layout. On one side they have plenty of tables and chairs where you can sit and get work done if you like. And it is spacious, so you don't feel like you are all on top of each other when it's super-crowded. The other side has a chaise lounge and three very comfy chairs. It's like being in someones living room. They also have outdoor seating which is really nice also! They have even taken the time to put flower beds out, which I've haven't seen at any other Starbucks. I think it's a really nice touch!! Lastly, they have a drive-thru which is really quick! I've been to a few other Starbucks where they have a drive-thru and have been stuck in the line forever waiting for my turn. Here, if you're in a hurry - no worries! They'll having you driving through with your yummy drink fast!

The staff at this Starbucks are generally very nice and helpful. On one of my recent trips, I was looking for the 16 oz cold beverage tumbler (sold out almost everywhere), and even though they didn't have it, the girl on staff was nice enough to tell me that she saw some at the Rosemont location. I didn't visit the Rosemont one to get one (found one at the downtown (Halsted/Madison) Dominick's Starbucks yesterday during a grocery run, woohoo!) but appreciated that she gave me the info.

I never thought I'd give Starbucks 4 stars, but I have been away from them for years. Last week I got together with a recently unemployed friend to talk about stuff. Since this Starbucks just opened up a short walk from his house, we decided to go over there and check it out. It's located on Lee St. north of Oakton, close to the Aldi. It has a new look for a Starbucks, with the footprint resembling a fast food restaurant rather than a cafe, right down to drive-thru service. Inside, it's very home-like with the look of a living room on one side of it and the usual tables and chairs you'd come to expect on the other side. It was a Friday night around 7 PM and the place was pretty slow. However, it has given me renewed appreciation for Starbucks. I ordered a tall cappuccino, which is my usual thing when I go for coffee. Some of my worst complaints about their coffee appear to have been addressed since my last visit to one of their stores about 3 years ago. 1. The paper cup material no longer leaches into the coffee and alter the flavor. 2. The coffee does not taste burnt or overly bitter. OK, so they are still cluttered with merchandise like mugs and gift sets, but so are many other places these days. In the end, it was a quiet and pleasant setting, great for conversation for us or for working, like the woman sitting with a laptop in one of the cushy chairs. The employees were gracious enough to allow us to stay past the official closing time, allowing the subtle hint of chairs put up on the tables to remind us it was time to leave. All is forgiven, Starbucks. Hope we can start anew.
